Flying with China Airlines

China Airlines is the national carrier for Taiwan, headquartered in Taiwan Taoyuan Airport. As part of the SkyTeam alliance (along with airlines such as China Southern and KLM), it has a wide range of destinations, flying to 115 cities in all.

China Airlines also has 2 subsidiary airlines: Mandarin Airlines and Tigerair Taiwan.

Why Fly China Airlines?

China Airlines takes pride in its image, service and planes. Since 2016, the company has been theming its aircraft around unique features of Taiwan, such as the Mikado pheasant and the Taiwan blue magpie. For trips to the island nation, this is a great way to get into the holiday mood.

Why fly with China Airlines

Ways to Check In

China Airlines' online check-in service, branded as eCheck-In, is available from 24 hours up to 90 minutes before your flight. This is done through the company's website, with either your reservation number, e-ticket number or Dynasty Card details.

After completing this process, you can print your boarding pass or choose to receive a mobile boarding pass on your phone. If you can't do this while you're travelling, you can still check in online and pick up your boarding pass from the airport. China Airlines recommends doing this 2 hours before your flight.

Seating

Depending on your fare class, you may not be able to select a seat. For most economy passengers (and all business and first class tickets), it's possible to do so without a fee. This is available from 90 days prior to your flight.

Not all seats are available to choose so early on. Exit row seats and those in the front row are held back until check-in time to allow airline staff to run through guidelines with passengers.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

For most China Airlines flights, passengers are allowed a total of 30kg of checked luggage. This can be spread across multiple bags, but their dimensions cannot be larger than 158cm.

For trips to Canada and the US, passengers are allowed 2 bags of up to 23kg each. The 3 dimensions of these bags cannot exceed 273cm.

Economy passengers are allowed 1 item of carry-on baggage. This must be no more than 7kg and have maximum dimensions of 56cm x 36cm x 23cm.

Excess baggage fees depend on your route. These start at US$6/kg and go all the way up to US$165/kg. In some regions they are simply charged per piece, from US$115 up to US$220.
