China Southern is Asia's biggest airline and the world's 6th biggest. It has major hubs in Guangzhou and Beijing, as well as many secondary hubs and focus cities across China. China Southern flies to more than 200 airports across the world.

The company was founded in 1988, and after a series of takeovers became one of China's 3 top airlines. In 2007, China Southern became part of the SkyTeam alliance, joining the likes of Air France, KLM and Korean Air.

Why Fly With China Southern?

Ways To Check In

As well as counter check-in, China Southern offers online check-in for the majority of its flights and passengers.

To check in, you'll need your passport or flight number. As you go through the online process, you'll be able to add frequent flyer details and to select a seat for your flight.

Boarding passes can be printed or sent to your mobile phone.

Online check-in is not available for flights from Guangzhou to Australia. Passengers on these journeys need to check in at the airport.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

China Southern fares include luggage for all passengers. The weight and size limit depends on the class you fly and your destination. For flights between New Zealand and China, economy class passengers are allowed 2 pieces of check-in baggage weighing up to 23kg each. The dimensions of these cases must be no more than 158cm.

For all international flights, passengers are allowed 1 main piece of cabin baggage (with dimensions up to 115cm and a weight limit of 5kg) and 1 small item such as a handbag.

Seating

Most seats can be reserved for no extra cost on China Southern flights. This can be done from the moment you book your flight up until 2pm the day before your flight.

Should you change your mind, the passenger who reserved the seats can log on to the China Southern website to re-pick their seats for the journey.

Some seats, such as those with extra leg room, cost a little extra. The price depends on factors such as the length of your journey.
