Why Fly With Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific check in

Online check-in is available for all Cathay Pacific flights from 360 days to 1 hour before your flight's departure. Your travel documents must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of your return flight.

Passengers can also check in using the Cathay Pacific mobile app, at self-service kiosks in selected airports, and at the check-in counter from 24 hours to 90 minutes before a flight. In Hong Kong, you can also check-in at kiosks in Hong Kong and Kowloon MTR stations.

If you need to make a change to your booking, such as your special meal request, this should be done no later than 24 hours before your flight.

Cathay Pacific baggage allowances and fees

Your baggage allowance for Cathay Pacific flights is based on the class you're flying in.

Economy and premium economy passengers are entitled to 1 cabin bag up to 7kg in weight. This weight allowance increases to 10kg for business class.

For checked baggage, passengers on direct flights between New Zealand and Hong Kong can check 1 item in economy class, 2 items in premium economy and 3 items in business class.

You may be entitled to extra baggage if you're a member of a frequent flyer club. Marco Polo Club Silver, Gold and Diamond members can carry 1 extra bag in economy and premium economy. Oneworld Sapphire members can take 1 extra bag in economy, while Emerald members can also take an extra bag in premium economy.

All items are required to weigh no more than 23kg and to be no larger than 158cm in total dimensions (length + width + height). If you have additional bags, these will be charged at local rates starting from US$30 per bag.

Cathay Pacific seating

You can request a seat at the time of your booking if you're flying first or business class, you're a Marco Polo Club or oneworld member (Silver/Ruby tier or above), or you have another eligible ticket. In economy class, you can choose your seat when you check in.

If you want a seat with extra leg room, these start from US$35 for short-haul flights or US$130 for long-haul flights. You can change your preferred seat online up to 55 hours before your flight is due to depart.
