Flying with Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines is the national flag carrier of Turkey. Flying to 226 international destinations in 118 countries, along with 47 domestic routes, it's currently the 4th largest airline in the world by destinations served.

Based at Istanbul Ataturk Airport, Turkish Airlines has more direct flights from a single airport than any carrier in Europe, with secondary hubs at Ankara Esenboga, Istanbul Sabiha and Izmir Airport. Its subsidiary airline, Anadolujet, also offers flights within Turkey and to Northern Cyprus.

Why fly with Turkish Airlines?

As well as an impressive network of flights stretching all over the world, Turkish Airlines is a highly rated airline by passengers. It was named Best Airline in Europe by Skytrax for 6 years running and has also been recognised for its business class lounges and in-flight services. It was among the first airlines to offer free in-flight Wi-Fi.

Why fly with Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines check in

Turkish Airlines passengers have several options for checking in to their flights. You can check in online, on mobile using an app, at airport check-in desks or using self-service kiosks at certain airports.

Mobile and online check-in are open from 24 hours to 90 minutes before your flight. You can then head straight to the online check-in desk (when available) to check your baggage and show your travel documents to the airline staff.

All travellers should aim to get to the airport at least 1 hour before a domestic flight or 2 hours before an international departure. Priority check-in is available for business class travellers at certain airports.

Turkish Airlines baggage allowance and fees

On both domestic and international flights, the free checked baggage allowance is 30kg for business class, 20kg for economy class and 15kg for promotions. Excess baggage is charged at different rates, depending on where you're flying.

Business class passengers can also take on board 2 items weighing up to 8kg each, while all other passengers are permitted 1 x 8kg item. Cabin bags cannot exceed 55cm x 40cm x 23cm and no checked or cabin item can weigh more than 32kg.

Specific requirements apply for flights to the United States and when carrying sports equipment, musical instruments and certain other items. See the Turkish Airlines website for full details.

Turkish Airlines seat selection

You can choose your preferred seat for free on most types of fares. The exception is economy fares on international flights, when an extra leg room seat costs US$19-US$79.

Seats can be reserved 355 days in advance on business class flights, 100 days before economy class international flights or 24 hours before economy class domestic flights during online check-in.
