Why Fly Austrian Airlines?

Despite being a subsidiary airline, Austrian Airlines has an exemplary safety record, scoring a full 7 out of 7 in independent safety ratings. This takes into account factors such as no fatalities in the past decade, that it's allowed to fly in EU airspace and endorsement from governing bodies.

Why Fly with Austrian Airlines

Ways to Check In

Austrian Airlines allows passengers to check in at the airport, online or in Vienna city centre.

Airport check-in is the de facto option, with self-service kiosks available in many European airports. Baggage drop areas are also present for those who have checked in online.

Web check-in opens 47 hours before departure. During this process, you can reserve a seat, upgrade to business class or book lounge access.

As well as checking in through the website, passengers can download the Austrian Airlines app (available for both Apple and Android phones) and check in through that.

When flying from Vienna, check-in is available from the City Airport Train Terminal. This is open from 5am to 9pm, and allows passengers to drop off bags as well. Check-in is available 1 day before your flight is scheduled to depart. The train to the airport takes 16 minutes.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

Your baggage allowance with Austrian Airlines depends on the fare you have picked, as well as your route.

For European routes, Economy Light passengers do not get any checked baggage, while Economy Classic and Flex passengers get 1 bag (up to 23kg) and Business passengers get 2 bags (up to 23kg each).

For intercontinental flights, Economy passengers are granted 1 bag up to 23kg, Premium Economy get 2 bags at this weight and Business passengers get 2 bags up to 32kg each.

No matter what flight or fare you're on, your bag's dimensions must add up to no more than 158cm.

Seats can be reserved up to a year in advance or up to 48 hours before departure. As with baggage, the price depends on your fare and route.

For flights within Europe, Economy Light passengers need to pay €10 to choose a seat, while other passengers get this service included in their fare.

For longer flights, the price for a standard seat varies between €10 and €25, while front row seats cost €50.
